Action for Animal Health’s new publication A fair share? Animal health actors and resources in One Health initiatives: A multisite case study in Ethiopia and Pakistan has been published in CABI One Health.
The publication discusses challenges in operationalising One Health at national and subnational levels against a backdrop of increasing zoonotic disease outbreaks and the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance. The authors found unequal power and resource distribution in One Health coalitions, with animal health remaining secondary to human health, and the exclusion of communities in project and policy development.
The paper concludes that barriers need to be overcome for animal health to fulfil its potential as a solution to global health threats and that stronger links must be forged between animal health and other sectors to support inclusive and effective One Health approaches.
