COVID-19 shows the devastating threat of infectious diseases which jump from animals to humans.

The current crisis demonstrates that animals and the health systems which ensure their protection play a vital role in the security and the economic and social well-being of humanity.

However, historic under-investment in animal health services, inadequately staffed and organised veterinary services and critical shortages in veterinary medicines and vaccines put the lives and well-being of millions of people and animals at risk.
