On 1 June, the coalition sent recommendations to the World Bank Group on their proposed Financial Intermediary Fund (FIF) for Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response (PPR).
With backing from the G20, the World Bank Group is developing a fund to support developing countries better prepare for future pandemics, by strengthening country, regional and global capacity for PPR. A white paper states that one of the focus areas for financing could be strengthening country-level PPR capacity by filling capacity gaps in core domains listed by the International Health Regulations (2005) and the OIE International Standards.
Action for Animal Health’s recommendations focus on the structure of the governing board and the fund’s scope, to make sure it properly addresses animal health systems strengthening to prevent zoonotic disease spill-over.
