OPEN LETTER: The importance of animal health systems to global health security is being overlooked

To mark World Vet Day 2021, members of the Action for Animal Health coalition have written an open letter to decision makers in which they call for more investment in animal health to enable veterinarians and paravets around the world to do their job of diagnosing and treating disease, and preventing outbreaks of future pandemics.

We call on all organisations working in animal, human or environmental health to join us and become signatories of our Call to Action.

Tell us who you are and why your organisation wants to be a signatory:

EVENTS

PUTTING ONE HEALTH INTO PRACTICE: A CALL TO ACTION FOR ANIMAL HEALTH

This event will be held virtually at 12 – 1pm (BST) on 20 May 2021 and is organised by the Action for  Animal Health coalition.

Today, more than 75% of all new human infectious diseases emerge from animals.

Governments and international agencies must recognise that the health of people and our planet depends on respecting the complex relationships that we have with animals we rely upon every day of our lives. Now, more than ever, animals and the health systems that protect them are vital to the security and economic and social well-being of humanity.

This event is an official launch of the Action for Animal Health coalition, which calls for more investment in animal health to protect animals, people and the planet.
